Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

458.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of tax rebate due to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who became unemployed in November 1984; the reason the amount is so low; and when this tax rebate will issue to the person concerned.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 30 November 1984 and submitted a claim for repayment of tax to the inspector of taxes on 4 January 1985. The claim was dealt with on 15 January 1985, in accordance with normal practice and an overpayment of £72.33 arose in respect of the period from 1 December 1984 to 10 January 1985. A cheque in settlement was issued to the taxpayer on 23 January.

Unemployment repayment claims are normally dealt with at four-weekly intervals. Accordingly, the taxpayer should submit a further claim for repayment any time after 6 February, if he is still unemployed, and it will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
