Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Wexford Employment Exchange.

503.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of a threatened strike at the Wexford employment exchange because of his Department's refusal to carry out the necessary works; if he is also aware that the staff at the employment exchange are working in very bad conditions with lack of space and congestion; if he will immediately correct the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With a view to improving the working conditions in the exchange in question, alternative premises for some staff from the exchange have been acquired by the Office of Public Works and are currently being fitted out. Internal renovations at the employment exchange are also in progress. It had been hoped to have these measures completed by mid-December last but due to unforeseen difficulties the work was delayed. It is now expected that the work will be completed by the middle of March 1985. Threatened strike action has been deferred pending completion of the necessary work.
