asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the total amount provided for sport by the Fianna Fáil Government in 1983; the amounts provided by the Coalition Government in 1983, 1984 and 1985 showing the percentage increase in each case including details of expenditure on the 1984 Olympics; and the amount paid to each sporting organisation which received grants-in-aid.

The Fianna Fáil Government provided a total allocation of £1,919,000 for youth and sport in 1983. These estimates did not indicate separate allocations for youth and sport. In the revised estimates for 1983 and in subsequent years the total provision for sport was as follows: 1983 —£719,000; 1984 — £1,196,000; 1985 — £1,360,000.
In 1983 an additional sum of £178,426 was spent on the development officer scheme. In 1984 and in 1985 the provision for development officers was incorporated into the sports subhead.
Excluding the provision for development officers the allocations for sport in 1984 and in 1985 represented progressive increases in the sports allocation of 39.08 per cent and 17.1 per cent respectively. Statements of the amounts paid to each sporting organisation in 1983 and in 1984, including the Olympic Council of Ireland, are appended. Grants paid to organisations towards the cost of hosting or attending international competitions are included.
