Vol. 355 No. 9

Written Answers. - Westmeath School.

412.

asked the Minister for Education the up to date position regarding the provision of an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

My Department in May 1984 sanctioned a grant towards the cost of providing an extension to the national school referred to. The question of carrying out more extensive work, namely, remodelling the existing school building, was subsequently raised by the school authorities and considered by my Department. It was agreed that the most effective and expeditious course would be to implement the original extension scheme, towards the cost of which the grant had been sanctioned, with minor modifications. It was also agreed that the proposed remodelling could be considered for grant sanction at a later date in the light of enrolment trends.

The further arrangements, involving the completion of detail design work with a view to inviting tenders for the project, are now a matter for the school authority's architect, working in consultation with the Commissioners of Public Works.
