Vol. 355 No. 10

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

658.

asked the Minister for Labour if any agreement has been made to give applications for redundancy payments from employees of the Clover Meats factory in Wexford priority treatment over applications from employees of other Clover Meats factories; the reason for any such arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All applications for payment of lump sums from the redundancy and employers' insolvency fund are given priority by my Department. In accordance with that policy, applications for lump sum payments from former employees of different factories in the Clover Meat group of companies are being dealt with by the Department as quickly as possible. My Department has made no agreement to give any special priority to the processing of applications from former employees of the Clover Meat factory in Wexford over applications from former employees of other Clover Meat factories.

659.

asked the Minister for Labour when an application for redundancy payment from a person (details supplied) in County Waterford, a former employee of Clover Meats Waterford, which was submitted on 2 January, will be dealt with.

An application for payment of a redundancy lump sum to the person concerned is being processed by my Department and it is expected that payment will be made within about a week.
