Vol. 355 No. 10

Written Answers. - Medical Card Application.

506.

asked the Minister for Health if he will review the request of a person (details supplied) in Dublin for a medical card as he is only marginally over the income limit.

As the determination of eligibility to hold a medical card is a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board it is not open to me to intervene in such decisions. However, I have been informed that a new application form has been issued to the person concerned in order to assess his eligibility with reference to the recently revised income guidelines. I should also state that drugs and medicines prescribed for the treatment of diabetes are available free of charge to persons in all categories under the long term illness scheme and applications for inclusion in the scheme should be made to the Eastern Health Board at Emmet House, Thomas Street, Dublin 8.
