Vol. 355 No. 10

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Accident Victims.

508.

asked the Minister for Health if he intends to make a special allocation to the health boards pending the introduction of new legislation dealing with the payment for maintenance and treatment following road accident cases; when the new legislation will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The general scheme of a Bill to amend the Health Act, 1970, has been drawn up and approved by the Government. It provides authority to enable charges to be made for services provided for road traffic accident victims. The drafting of the proposed Bill is in hands. I shall introduce it at the earliest possible opportunity.

The question of how the interim loss of income is to be dealt with is being considered in the context of the provision made for health services for each of the years 1985 to 1987, as identified in the national plan.
