Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Cessation Scheme.

246.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will formulate a scheme to distribute the excess milk offered to his Department under the milk cessation scheme among new entrants to milk production and farmers in severe financial difficulty.

All the Exchequer funds available for the milk cessation scheme will be absorbed by the seven million gallons to be made available for the disease and other special categories which must be catered for under the regulations. I have, however, suggested to the co-operatives that they should consider an arrangement whereby they would finance the purchase of the excess milk offered by unsuccessful applicants. This suggestion is being examined by them at present.
