Vol. 356 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dungarvan (Waterford) Industry.

458.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of any renewed interest being shown regarding the reopening of the Quigley-Magnesite plant at Ballinacourty, Dungarvan, County Waterford, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that since the closure of the plant in 1982, owing to its lack of competitiveness and the excess supply of magnesite worldwide, the company concerned has kept the plant on a care-and-maintenance basis. As international markets for magnesite remain depressed I understand that there are no immediate plans to reopen the plant but that the company is continuously reviewing the position.
