The following table sets out the number of persons arrested under the Offences against the State Act, 1939, for the years 1972 to 1984 (inclusive) the only years for which statistics are available. It also sets out the number of persons charged following such arrests.

It should be pointed out, however, that the figures for the number of persons charged with offences include those charged with offences other than offences under the Offences against the State Act — for example firearms offences.
I am informed by the Garda Commissioner that the other statistics sought are not available and could only be compiled by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time.
