Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Youth Employment Levy.

650.

asked the Minister for Labour the percentage of youth employment levy funds in each of the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 that has been used for new training activities as distinct from training activities previously funded by the Exchequer under existing programmes.

The youth employment levy was introduced to help finance new schemes of employment and training for young persons and to enable existing schemes for them to be rapidly expanded. In the circumstances it would not be meaningful to attempt to calculate the percentage of levy funds used for new training activities. The way the levy moneys have been used to increase the opportunities for training and employment of young persons can best be demonstrated by the following figures of numbers who participated in these schemes for young persons in 1981 and the years the levy moneys have been available.
