Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Kerry Turbary Rights.

513.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when turbary rights will be granted to applicants in respect of Raecaol Bog in east Kilcummin, Killarney, which is also within a short distance of Gneeveguilla Village in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated in my reply of 4 December last to a previous question by the Deputy, turbary facilities on this bog were available from my Department for some years but no offers were forthcoming. Moreover, after arrangements were made for a lease and some 200 acres to a local co-operative society for turbary development the society did not take up the lease. Since then, following the invitation of public tenders a long-term lease of the area in question is being made to the successful (local) tenderer with a view to its development for turf production.
