Vol. 356 No. 8

Written Answers. - National Manpower Service.

511.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the difficulties being encountered by residents of Skerries and the immediately surrounding area while trying to avail of the existing facilities being provided by the National Manpower Service; the proposals he has to remedy this situation; whether money will be made available to provide a one-day-a-week service in Skerries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At present a placement officer attends at the Community Centre, Swords, one morning each week to service that area including Skerries. I have decided to open a full time office in Swords as soon as suitable accommodation is acquired. This will provide an increased level of service for the north County Dublin area. A recent survey indicates that approximately 100 unemployed people in the Skerries area are not registered with the National Manpower Service. Pending the opening of the full time office in Swords, arrangements are being made for a further screening of the live register in Skerries to ensure that all those interested in registering with the National Manpower Service are given an opportunity to do so.
