Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - Crossmaglen GAA Club.

451.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is satisfied with the amount of compensation awarded to the Crossmaglen GAA club for the compulsory use of their property for the past number of years by the British forces; and, if not, if he intends intervening in the matter.

The compensation case brought by the Crossmaglen GAA club in the Northern Ireland Courts is a private matter between the club and the British authorities and it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the nature of its conclusion except to say that I am pleased that this issue, which has been dragging on for many years, has now been settled by agreement.

There remain other issues affecting the Crossmaglen GAA club. These issues include, in particular, the British Army's use of a right of way on the club's property. As I have assured the House in the past, I will continue to give the GAA all the assistance I can to help settle the outstanding difficulties as quickly as possible, and I will continue to raise these matters with the British Government to this end.
