Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

463.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the huge backlog of claims for refunds of income tax to building workers, many in County Meath, who are now unemployed and cannot get refunds of PAYE due to the fact that the section dealing with this in the Revenue Commissioners is understaffed; and the action he intends to take in the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that in any case where full particulars relating to a claim for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment are supplied to the inspector of taxes, the claim is dealt with as quickly as possible.

The inspector dealing with the tax affairs of construction industry employees in the Dublin General District, which also covers County Meath, is not aware of any backlog of claims in that particular district. If the Deputy has any particular case in mind, he should supply the relevant details to the Revenue Commissioners and the matter will be investigated.
