Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Cork PAYE Records.

464.

asked the Minister for Finance the current number of people in Cork city and county on the PAYE roll.

Statistics are not available which would enable the precise information requested by the Deputy to be given. The only relevant statistics available relate to the number of persons on the PAYE record in the Cork tax district, which covers Cork city and county. The number of such persons in the current income tax year is estimated to be 94,000.

It should be borne in mind that an employee is on the PAYE record in the tax district in which his employer is registered for PAYE purposes. Accordingly the figure of 94,000 includes some persons who are employed outside the Cork area and does not include those employed within it whose employers are registered elsewhere. It is not possible to supply an estimate of the numbers of persons so affected.
