asked the Minister for the Environment the number of people who have applied for the £5,000 grant payable to those who vacate public housing in order to buy a new house as outlined in Building on Reality, 1985-1987; and the number of people who have been granted the £5,000 grant (a) in January 1985 and (b) in February 1985.
As I indicated in my reply of 13 February, applications for the £5,000 grant are made directly to the housing authority which provided the houses being vacated and consequently details of the number of applications for the grant are not available in my Department. It is believed that the number of applications received to date is in excess of 700. No grants were paid in January 1985 while the number paid in February was 15.
