Vol. 356 No. 11

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

528.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he will pay full unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that by failing to furnish details of his means he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit. He appealed against this decision on 1 March 1985 and arising out of contentions made by him in support of this appeal his case has been referred to a social welfare officer for further inquiries. When these inquiries are completed his case will be submitted to an appeals officer for determination and his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the appeals officer's decision.

529.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork who is on long duration disability benefit is receiving his cheques irregularly as his certificates go in on 20th day of each month.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 12 December 1983 and payment is issued at regular weekly intervals on receipt of monthly medical evidence of incapacity for work. The case recently came up for review and as a result of which payments were not issued as normal for the period 18 February to 2 March 1985. Regular weekly payments were subsequently resumed and will continue on receipt of monthly medical certificates. All benefit payable to the person concerned in respect of his claim has been issued to date.

530.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be paid his disability benefit as he has not been paid for the past six weeks.

Payment of disability benefit to the person concerned was suspended from 29 January 1985 pending investigations into his insurance record.

The investigations have now been completed and it has been confirmed that he qualifies for payment at the weekly rate of £35.90. The arrears of benefit payable less the amount of supplementary welfare allowance advanced by the Southern Health Board were issued to him on 12 March 1985. All disability benefit payable to the person concerned has been issued to 4 March 1985, the date of the latest medical certificate received.

531.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a valid travel pass will be given to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as he did not receive it when his invalidity pension was restored.

A free travel pass was issued to the person concerned in November 1982 when he was awarded invalidity pension. In February 1984, this pension was withdrawn and he was requested to return his free travel pass. There is no record of receipt of this pass in the Department and accordingly when this person's invalidity pension was restored in August 1984, no further pass was issued to him. If he has lost his pass he should complete and return the replacement pass form which has been issued to him.
