Vol. 357 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Prosecutions.

629.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions brought against the owners or drivers of heavy duty articulated lorries or buses in each of the years 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984 under the following headings: (a) inadequately equipped vehicles; (b) vehicles emitting noxious fumes; (c) vehicles overladen; (d) vehicles not using the tachometer; and (e) truck drivers operating as hauliers without being properly licensed to do so.

Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information is not available under the headings requested and could only be compiled by diverting Garda manpower from other more pressing duties.

Statistics relating to prosecutions in respect of all mechanically propelled vehicles for breaches of the Road Traffic (Lighting of Vehicles) Regulations, the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, and the Road Transport Acts, are included in the Garda Commissioner's annual report on crime. Copies of the report for the years up to and including 1983 are available in the Oireachtas Library. The Report for 1984 is not yet available.
