Vol. 357 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Grants.

523.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will increase the road block grant which Meath County Council has already been granted for 1985 especially for the maintenance of our main county roads.

The road grant allocations already notified to local authorities absorb the total of the moneys available to me for distribution for this purpose in 1985. The council may, at its discretion, apply the block grant allocated by my Department to a number of purposes, including the improvement of county roads. In accordance with established policy, the maintenance costs of county roads must be met from the council's own resources (including the rate support grants).
