Vol. 357 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin School.

636.

asked the Minister for Education if a school building (details supplied) in Dublin 7 meets all fire safety requirements; if there is any cause for concern that the building constitutes a serious fire hazard; if so the steps being taken by the school authorities to remedy this situation; and the assistance her Department will make available to the school authorities in this regard.

Responsibility for meeting fire safety requirements in national schools rests with the school authorities themselves. In the case referred to by the Deputy, my Department, on 13 December 1984 on the recommendation of the Commissioners of Public Works, sanctioned a grant towards the cost of providing a fire escape and a fire alarm at the school. It is a matter for the school authorities to arrange for the execution of these works.
