asked the Minister for Education the amount of moneys allocated to each vocational education committee in 1984 and 1985 by way of grants; and the amount of money included in each allocation for the repayment of loans.
Written Answers. - Vocational Education Committee Grants.
The information requested by the Deputy, on the financial allocation made to each vocational education committee in 1984 and 1985, is contained in the following tabular statement. It will be seen from the appended note that the figures given for 1985 do not include provision for certain activities for which a separate allocation is to be made later in 1985.
No specified amount is included in the allocations in respect of repayment of loans for capital projects; the amount required is contained in the allocation for maintenance of schools in each committee's financial scheme. As and from 1 January 1983 the financing of new capital projects by vocational education committees through the local loans fund was terminated and funds are being provided by voted capital grants under the post primary education Vote of my Department for such purposes. Loans raised prior to 1 January 1983 continue to be repaid by the VEC's in the normal manner.

*Notes The above figures are not comparable because the allocations made in 1985 do not include financial provision for the period 1 September-31 December 1985 for (a) instruction, (b) the ESF vocational preparation and training programme and (c) the expansion element of the middle level technician programme. A separate allocation for those activities will be made later in 1985.
The 1984 allocations includes a supplementary allocation paid in late 1984.
