Vol. 357 No. 7

Written Answers. - Travelling Expenses

608.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason craftsmen located at Gormanston Camp, County Meath, are not paid travelling time; if he is aware that craftsmen employed at other stations such as Baldonnel, Collins Barracks and others are paid two hours travelling allowance per day which amounts to approximately £38 per week; if he will agree that the same payments should apply to all employees; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under an agreement with the trades unions concerned, payment in respect of travel time, in accordance with an agreed scale, is made to craftsmen employed by Government Departments within the catchment area of the Dublin working rule agreement of the Construction Industry Federation. As Gormanston Camp is outside that area, such payment is not made to craftsmen employed there by my Department.
