Vol. 357 No. 11

Written Answers. - Industrial Accidents.

617.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of employer liability related accidents in both manufacturing and service industries that have occurred in each of the past five years in Ireland; how the rate of accidents in this country compares with other countries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Safety in Industry Acts, 1955 and 1980, Mines and Quarries Act, 1965, and Dangerous Substances Acts, 1972 and 1979, administered by my Department, contain differing detailed provisions about reporting accidents. Those reporting requirements do not focus on employer liability related accidents and I do not therefore have information on such accidents.

The information received by my Department is not sufficiently comprehensive to allow for a valid comparison of accident rates in this country with other countries.
