Vol. 358 No. 1

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Visas.

556.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of foreign diplomats accredited to Britain and France who have sought visas to travel to the State in the past ten years: the number who have been granted visas; and the number who have been refused.

My Department do not keep statistics of the kind requested. A check has however been carried out on applications received in 1984. According to this examination, no diplomats accredited in France applied for Irish visas in 1984; 94 diplomatic persons accredited in Britain (including spouses of diplomats) applied. Of these, 75 worked in embassies, the ambassadors of which were also accredited to Ireland or such accreditation was being arranged. The examination did not reveal any case in which a visa was refused.
