Vol. 358 No. 3

Written Answers. - Geashill (Offaly) National School.

573.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that 28 children wish to commence school at Geashill national school, County Offaly, in September 1985 and that only 12 can be accommodated; if, in view of the overcrowding, she will arrange with the school management board to build two extra classrooms while the contractor is on the site building a general purposes room; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have sanctioned a grant towards the cost of providing a new general purposes room at Geashill national school, County Offaly, and of converting the existing general purposes room to a classroom. This project is at present under construction and will bring the accommodation at the school to four classrooms and a general purposes area. My Department are considering an application from the school authorities for a grant to provide an additional classroom, and a decision on this application will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as possible following a review of enrolment trends which is at present being undertaken.
