Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - Housing Applications.

574.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the number of applicants for housing in the Rolestown area; and if he will approve a scheme for the area.

Under section 53 of the Housing Act, 1966, it is the responsibility of a housing authority to ascertain the housing needs situation in their area. Information of the matter is supplied to my Department on an annual basis, but the data furnished relates to the overall position within an authority's area and does not relate to any particular districts within that area. Accordingly, information in relation to the number of applicants for housing in the Rolestown area at present is not available in my Department.

Layout and house plans for a proposed 79-house scheme at Rolestown, submitted by Dublin County Council, were approved by my Department on 19 May 1983. The council stated at that time that it was their intention to build 13 of these houses initially as the first phase of the development. However, to date no tender proposal has been received in my Department.
