Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Galway Hydro-Electric Project.

608.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has considered the application of a company (details supplied) in conjunction with the engineering departments of UCG and NIHE, Limerick for the use of Parknavera Lock, Eglinton Canal, Galway in a hydro-electric project under the EC grant scheme to demonstrate projects in the field of indigenous energy development; if he has considered the enormous benefits that such schemes can confer in terms of the reduced need for imports of oil for energy purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Commissioners of Public Works have under consideration an application on behalf of Messrs. AGWES International Ltd. for the granting of a lease for the use of Parkravera Lock, Eglinton Canal, Galway, in connection with a proposed hydro-electric project. Consideration of the application, which raises a number of issues requiring investigation, will take some time.
