Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payment.

739.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange early payment of redundancy moneys to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The payment of a statutory redundancy lump sum is primarily a matter for the employer concerned. On payment of the lump sum, the employer can then apply to my Department for a rebate of 60 per cent of the statutory amount. The Department has not yet received a formal claim for payment of a rebate to this employer in respect of a statutory redundancy lump sum to the employee concerned.

If the employee has not received a lump sum payment, he should apply in writing to the employer. If the employer does not pay but issues him with a redundancy certificate, the employee can apply to my Department for payment from the redundancy and employers' insolvency fund. If the employer does not pay the lump sum and fails to issue a redundancy certificate, the employee can submit an appeal to the Employment Appeals Tribunal to establish his entitlement. I am writing to the Deputy advising him in more detail of the procedures to be followed by the worker in claiming a redundancy lump sum and by the employer in claiming a rebate.
