Written Answers. - Appointment of Equality Officers.

634.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of his Department and each semi-State body for which he is responsible, whether the appointment of equality officers has been made; and, if not, when such appointments may be made.

Limerick East): Equality issues are dealt with as part of the personnel function in my Department. The question of appointing an equality officer has not arisen.

635.

asked the Minister for Education if she will state in respect of her Department and each semi-State body for which she is responsible whether the appointment of equality officers has been made; and, if not, when such appointments may be made.

As a special high level working party already exists for consideration of issues relating to equality of opportunity, it is not proposed to have a specially designated equality officer appointed in my Department. The Higher Education Authority has appointed an officer to act in this capacity and the National Council for Educational Awards proposes to make a similar appointment in the very near future.
