I propose to take Questions Nos. 636, 637, and 638 together. Application for new accommodation was first made in 1975 in the case of Tuam Vocational School and in 1979 in the case of Protumna and Ballinasloe Vocational Schools. Because of the Department's overall building commitments at the time, it was not possible to commence architectural planning of any of the projects until 1982. Planning has progressed to the stage where the developed sketch scheme has been approved for each project.
In the case of Ballinasloe, documentation relating to the working drawings, has been requested from the County Galway Vocational Education Committee and is awaited in the Department. This documentation has already been received in relation to Tuam and Portumna and is under examination. When this examination has been completed and the documentation found to be satisfactory, the committee will be advised in relation to the next stage of planning, i.e. the bill of quantities.
Pending completion of all the stages of planning, I am not in a position to say when tenders may be invited or when work on the projects may be commenced. The question of the allocation of money for any school building project does not arise until the project is nearing the stage where it is ready to go to tender.
