Vol. 359 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant and Mortgage Subsidy Payments.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a home improvement grant was refused to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick on the basis that he got a home improvement grant in February 1977, as he cannot recall having received any such grant at that time; and if it is the position that a grant can be paid for necessary repairs to a house despite the fact that a house improvement grant was paid within the past 5 years.

A grant for the carrying out of necessary repairs to the fabric of a house cannot be allowed where a statutory waiting period of ten years had not elapsed from the date of payment of a previous reconstruction grant in respect of the house. In this case the applicant was paid such a grant in February 1977 and, accordingly, the application received from him on 2 May 1985 had to be turned down.

53.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare.

This application for a new house grant was refused because the floor area of the house is in excess of the maximum allowable for grant purposes i.e. 125 sq.m. (1,346 sq.ft.).

54.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will pay a mortgage subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The person named who is single cannot be paid a mortgage subsidy because he commenced building his house and executed his mortgage deed during the period (23 July 1981 to 25 March 1982) when the subsidy was restricted to married persons, persons about to marry and one parent families.

55.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether a new house grant is payable to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A new house grant is not payable in this case because the floor area of the house is in excess of the maximum allowable grant purposes i.e. 125 sq.m. (1,346 sq.ft.). The applicant is already aware that the proposals submitted relating to the reduction of the floor area are not acceptable.
