Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Primary Schools Capitation Grant.

354.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the serious financial difficulties facing the management boards of primary schools at this time; and, if so, the measures she proposes to take to alleviate their position.

I am aware that the boards of management of many national schools have encountered difficulties in meeting running costs and, for this reason, the capitation grant was increased by £4, to £21 per pupil, in respect of the 1983-84 school year and by a further £1, to £22 per pupil, in respect of the 1984-85 school year. The question of the level of capitation grant for 1985-86 will be considered in the context of the Estimates for Public Services, 1986.
