Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Work Experience Programme.

356.

asked the Minister for Education if there are any controls or regulations regarding work experience in view of the fact that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who was qualified as a secretarial assistant obtained two weeks work experience recently which only involved making tea.

Schools participating in the vocational preparation and training programme are required to ensure that forms of experience of work placements during the course of the programme are properly monitored and integrated into the overall programme. In addition the schools are required to liaise with the trainee and/or work supervisor during the work experience placement to ensure that the placement is operating satisfactorily. In the case of the person mentioned by the Deputy the school authorities have informed me that all the requirements of the scheme were fulfilled and that the person in question did not make any complaint in regard to the nature and extent of the placement. I have, however, brought the Deputy's representations to the attention of the school authorities.
