Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Bord na Móna Superannuation Schemes.

18.

asked the Minister for Energy if he is aware that the principal amendments to the Bord na Móna (Superannuation) Scheme, 1963, have not yet been published; and if he will state the full terms of the latest provisions, as approved by his Department affecting preserved benefits following (a) resignation and (b) redundancy.

19.

asked the Minister for Energy if he is aware that the principal amendments to the Bord na Móna (Superannuation) Scheme, 1963, have not yet been published as regulations; and if he will state the full, current terms of the 1978 amendment scheme as subsequently amended in 1980.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together. Bord na Móna operate three superannuation schemes; one for their general employees, one for their regular employees and one for whole-time members of the board. It is assumed that the Deputy's questions relate to the Turf Development Act, 1953 (Regular Works Employees) Superannuation Scheme, 1963 and its amending schemes.

The 1963 scheme, and seven subsequent amending schemes, have received the approval of the Minister and the concurrence of the Minister for the Public Service, or the Minister for Finance as provided in earlier legislation. Before the schemes were made, they were published in accordance with the provisions of section 6 of the Turf Development Act, 1953. When the schemes were made, they were laid before each House of the Oireachtas. It has not been the practice to have the schemes published as regulations. The 1980 and 1982 amending schemes contain the most recent references to resignation and redundancy. Copies of the relevant documents are available in Bord na Móna for inspection by members of the scheme.
