Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Southern Africa Front Line States.

20.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is aware of the request by the Southern Africa Front Line States for a meeting with the European Council of Ministers; if he intends supporting this request; and if he will further indicate his support for a political dialogue in the region leading to a settlement of the dispute in the area.

I wish to confirm that the member states of the European Community have received an approach from the Front Line States for a meeting with the Community and to advise the Deputy that the approach is under consideration by the Ten. Ireland has consistently supported the idea of a peaceful resolution to the problems of Southern Africa. In this context Ireland has supported the Front Line States and would view favourably any moves to improve relations between the Ten and the Front Line States.
