Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Louth Industrial Promotion.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will designate Louth as a disadvantaged area for industrial promotion purposes.

The National Economic and Social Council are, at my request, carrying out a review of the criteria for designation. It would be inappropriate, therefore, for me to designate any further areas of the country until this review is completed and examined by the Government.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are actively promoting County Louth for manufacturing industry. They have available 177,500 sq. ft. of advance factory space in Dundalk and Drogheda, which is being actively promoted for suitable industrial projects; in addition, they are promoting for industrial purposes two small industry units of 3,000 sq. ft. each and one unit of 1,600 sq. ft. in Dundalk and a total of 138 acres of land at various locations throughout the county.
