Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Pension Scheme.

85.

asked the Minister for the Public Service when it is his intention to give effect to the changes in the Houses of the Oireachtas (Members) Pension Scheme which he announced in the debate in the Dáil in November 1983.

My intention is to give effect to the changes referred to by the Deputy as from 1 September 1983. Those changes require the making of an amending scheme and involve complex technical drafting which has been the subject of discussions with the Parliamentary Draftsman's Office. An amending scheme has been prepared by my Department and when cleared with the Parliamentary Draftsman will be laid before Dáil Éireann as prescribed in the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary and Judicial Offices (Amendment) Act, 1983. I have also asked that certain further changes be made corresponding to changes which have recently been made in the Civil Service schemes for spouses' and children's pensions.
