Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Bacterial Monitoring of Coastal Waters.

131.

asked the Minister for Health if the Eastern Health Board analyse the results of bacterial monitoring on the east coast, particularly in Dublin Bay; if not, the reason; how long monitoring has been going on; where the records are held; if he will make available a full report on the trends of bacterial contamination at all sea bathing sites monitored by the Eastern Health Board during the period 1975 to 1979 to members of the public.

The Eastern Board do not carry out an analysis of the results of bacterial monitoring of coastal waters. This is a statutory responsibility of the local authorities. The report of the Chief Health Inspector, City of Dublin, for 1983 contains details of monitoring of sea water carried out during that year on behalf of Dublin Corporation and I am arranging for a copy of the report to be forwarded to the Deputy.
