Vol. 359 No. 10

Written Answers. - Prison Service Consultancy Fees.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance the total cost to the State of consultancy fees for the proposed four new prisons and places of detention; the names of consultants involved; and the amounts paid to each.

It is assumed that the question refers to proposed prisons and places of detention at Cork, Portlaoise and Wheatfield, Clondalkin. In the case of the Cork, Portlaoise and one of the Wheatfield prisons, which have not so far been proceeded with, the total fees paid to consultants to 30 April 1985 amounted to £5,360,000. The fourth prison in question is under construction at present and fees paid to 30 April 1985 amounted to £3,600,000. It is not the practice, for security reasons, to reveal the names of consultants employed on projects such as these.
