Vol. 360 No. 1

Written Answers. - Payment of Retirement Lump Sum.

70.

asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Offaly will be paid all moneys due to him from the Office of Public Works.

The person named in the question is entitled to payment of retirement lump sum under the non-contributory pension scheme for non-established State employees by virtue of the fact that he is deemed to have been made redundant due to the non-availability of seasonal maintenance work on the Brosna drainage scheme in 1984.

Considerable difficulty has been experienced by the Office of Public Works in obtaining confirmation of the person's previous service with CIE and with the Offaly County Council, the reckoning of which service was necessary to give the person named the minimum of five years net pensionable service to qualify for benefits under the pension scheme.

The Minister for the Public Service has now (26 June 1985) sanctioned the transfer of the person's CIE and Offaly County Council service to the Office of Public Works subject to some further inquiries to be made to the county council. These will be made with all expedition and it is expected that payment of the retirement lump sum will be made within the next three to four weeks.

Payment of pension will not fall due until the person named reaches 65 years of age.
