Vol. 360 No. 5

Written Answers. - Limerick VEC.

188.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the very serious disability due to serious understaffing under which the clerical and administrative staff of the Limerick City VEC are expected to carry out their duties, that they have intimated that they will not be able to cope with certain aspects of their work such as ESF course administration if they are not given sufficient staffing to do so; that a study in staffing levels in the administrative system was carried out on 10 and 11 April 1985 and that the results of this study are with her Department for some weeks now; the recommendations which were made in this study report; the reason for the delay in acting on these recommendations; and if, in view of the urgency involved she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the clerical and administrative staffing position of the City of Limerick Vocational Education Committee and of the implications of that position. I arranged for an assessment of the situation to be carried out recently by an officer of my Department. His report is under active consideration at present and I hope to be in a position to convey a decision in the matter at an early date.
