Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - State and Semi-State Bodies Reports.

39.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will take steps to ensure that reports from State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department are made available to Oireachtas Members at the earliest opportunity rather than the present practice which means that Oireachtas Members may get such data many days after these reports have been publicly discussed and circulated; and if he will make the necessary representations to the bodies concerned.

I am satisfied that, in so far as my Department and relevant semi-State bodies are concerned, the appropriate statutory procedures with regard to the laying of reports before the Oireachtas are fully complied with.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will take steps to ensure that reports from State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department are made available to Oireachtas Members at the earliest opportunity rather than the present practice which means that Oireachtas Members may get such data many days after these reports have been publicly discussed and circulated; and if he will make the necessary representations to the bodies concerned.

All reports from State and semi-State bodies under my aegis which I am required to submit to the Houses of the Oireachtas are presented either prior to or on the same date as they are released to the public. The presentation to the Houses of the Oireachtas of other reports which may be produced or commissioned by such bodies for their own use is a matter of day-to-day administration in which I would not wish to intervene.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will take steps to ensure that reports from State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department are made available to Oireachtas Members at the earliest opportunity rather than the present practice which means that Oireachtas Members may get such data many days after these reports have been publicly discussed and circulated; and if he will make the necessary representations to the bodies concerned.

The annual reports of State bodies under the aegis of my Department are laid before, or presented to, each House of the Oireachtas at the earliest opportunity. Other reports of those bodies, if published, are made available to Members of the Oireachtas when they are published. It is my intention that this practice will continue to be followed.
