Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' VAT Exemption.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will extend the provisions for disabled drivers whereby VAT exemptions apply on petrol to ambulances operated by voluntary groups such as St. John's Ambulance when they convey disabled persons.

The question of extending the petrol duty repayment scheme for disabled drivers on the lines suggested by the Deputy has been examined before. However, it was found that such an extended scheme would be virtually impossible to control properly without the risk of grave loss to the revenue. In any event, I am not disposed to consider any extention of the present scheme pending the outcome of the review of all aspects of transport for disabled people proposed in the Green Paper on services for disabled people, Towards a Full Life.
