Vol. 361 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway National Schools.

85.

asked the Minister for Education when sketch plans for an extension to Killenneen national school will be completed; and when she hopes to be in a position to authorise the construction of an extension to this school.

It is understood from the Commissioners of Public Works that a sketch scheme for the extension to the school in question will shortly be completed. When this sketch scheme has been approved from an educational viewpoint, my Department will be in a position to negotiate a suitable local contribution and to formally sanction a grant for the work. Arrangements will then be made for the preparation of contract documents. It is not possible at this stage to say when construction of the extension may commence.

asked the Minister for Education when she proposes to approve the construction of Tirellan Heights national school; and if she will give a time scale of the various planning stages to be completed so that tenders can be accepted for the project.

It is understood that the Deputy's question relates to a proposal to grant aid a new national school building at Tirellan Heights, Galway city. At present working drawings for the project which have been prepared by the school authority's architect, are being examined by the Commissioners of Public Works, with a view to their arranging for the preparation of the bill of quantities. At the conclusion of these stages of planning, the question of inviting tenders for the project will be considered. It is not possible to give an accurate time scale for these various operations, but I am asking that there should be no avoidable delay in bringing the project to the tender action stage.
