Vol. 361 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cavan-Monaghan Mushroom Growers.

84.

asked the Minister for Agriculture his plans for a compost subsidy from EC/Exchequer funds for mushroom growers in the Cavan-Monaghan area because of the exhorbitant price of straw.

There are no funds available from the EC or the Exchequer for the provision of a compost subsidy for mushroom growers.

However, I understand that the position regarding the supply of wheaten straw. which is used in the manufacture of mushroom compost, has improved considerably from that envisaged earlier.
