asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions and convictions in relation to drunken driving in the Dublin area for each of the last five years.

Limerick East): Statistics for the main categories of drinking and driving offences in respect of the Dublin metropolitan area for the years referred to are set out in the following statement, which also specifies the offences in question:

The following are the numbers of prosecutions and convictions for the Dublin metropolitan area in the years 1980 to 1984 inclusive in respect of the offences of— (i) driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle (m.p.v.) while drunk; (ii) being in charge of an m.p.v. while drunk; (iii) driving or attempting to drive an m.v.p. while the blood/urine/alcohol concentration was above the prescribed limit; (iv) being in charge of an m.p.v. while the blood/urine/alcohol concentration was above the prescribed limit; (v) refusing to provide a preliminary specimen of breath; (vi) refusing to provide or permit taking of a blood/urine specimen at a Garda Station.
