Vol. 361 No. 7

Written Answers. - Development of Tourist Roads.

45.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will arrange with Bord Fáilte Éireann to restore the tourist roads grants in respect of County Kerry during 1986; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bord Fáilte have never provided grants towards the development of roads for tourists. The recent White Paper on Tourism Policy indicates that, as appropriate, Government Departments and State agencies must accept primary responsibility for the provision and maintenance of the infrastructural needs of tourism. The matter of the provision of grants for roads is therefore one for the Department of the Environment and the local authorities.
