Vol. 361 No. 7

Written Answers. - Employment in Public Service.

65.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if a person (details supplied) who is Manx but is the holder of a British passport cannot be considered for employment in the public service here although he is married to an Irish citizen; and if he will make a statement on this matter.

There is nothing to prevent the person concerned from applying for Civil Service vacancies advertised by the Civil Service Commission. However, if the competition in question has a nationality requirement he would have to be or become an Irish citizen to be eligible. If a nationality requirement does not apply the question of a work permit for this country could arise. The person referred to might therefore consider seeking clarification of his position in that respect from the Department of Labour. Of course if he were an Irish citizen a work permit would not be required.
