Vol. 361 No. 7

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing Statistics.

64.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in respect of local authority houses in each of the years 1980 to 1984, inclusive: (1) the number of houses rented; (2) the total rental income; (3) the average weekly rent; (4) the total subsidy; and (5) the average weekly subsidy.

In regard to items (1) to (4) for the years 1980 to 1983 I would refer the Deputy to tables 23 and 25 of my Department's annual bulletin of housing statistics for the quarter ended 31 December 1984. The estimated average weekly subsidy for a new local authority dwelling was £53 in 1980, £65 in 1981, £86 in 1982 and £89 in 1983. The corresponding figures for 1984 are: Number of houses rented, 110,450; total rental income, £38.2 million; average weekly rent, £6.65; total housing subsidy, £149.636 million; average weekly subsidy per new dwelling, £85.
